The Ballenas Whalers senior girls volleyball team continued its impressive run this season, earning a second place finish at the North Islands this past weekend in Nanaimo.
Played out at Dover Bay, the Whalers girls went 6-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament, beating the likes of Port Alberni, Gulf Islands, Carihi (Campbell River), the host Dover Bay Dolphins, NDSS and Mark Isfeld (Comox).
The Whalers only loss came to the eventual champions and top ranked Timberline Wolves (19-25, 15-25).
Emily Robertson continued her strong play, having a standout tournament, with 12 kills coming against the host Dover Bay team and 10 in the final against Timberline.
“We showed great improvement in our match against Timberline,” coach John Philip said.
“Considering how badly they beat us the previous week, it was a confidence builder to help us realize that we can compete with them if we play well.”
The Whalers will move along to the Island Championships this weekend in Campbell River, hosted by Timberline.
The host Timberline Wolves, Mark Isfeld, Dover Bay, NDSS and Carihi from the North Island will join the Whalers.
