Gymnasts from Vernon’s North Valley Gymnastics Club (NVG) rocked their first competition of the season at the annual Cobweb Invitational, hosted by the Okanagan Gymnastic Club (OGC) inKelowna.
The gymnasts competed in women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG), meaning they executed routines onfour different events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise.
NVG sent gymnasts to compete in JO (Junior Olympic) levels 5, 6, and 7, coached by Naomi Rokus,Cariann Hewison, and Nicole Plysiuk. NVG’s athletes did an amazing job and placed in the top-10 ineach of those levels.
All-around top-10 level 5 champions included Emelia Bolin, and Carys Reed, JO level 6 included Tyra Green and Readon Skanes, while Emma Doucette, Brooklyn Ashby, and Autumn Doucette cleaned upin level 7.
“Although they compete individually, the girls competed as a team, just as much supportive as they are competitive,” said the coaches. “They cheered each other on the entire meet, even their younger teammates travelled down to support them. The gymnasts did an outstanding job and and Vernon should be proud. Although it is challenging to train in a facility that does not meet their competitive needs, the girls will continue setting personal goals, training hard, and perfecting their routines for their upcoming competition, Feb. 3-5 in Langley.”
