It’s time to clear some room in the trophy case for Abbotsford’s Tom Norton.
The Special Olympics Abbotsford track and field coach was honoured with three different awards in the last two months for his 30-plus years of work with the organization.
Norton was recognized at the Special Olympics BC Leadership Summit in October as the winner of the Howard Carter Award for 2015 (Coach of the Year).
Following close on the heels of that honour, Norton received the 2015 Coaching Association of Canada Sport Leadership Coaching Excellence Award presented on Nov. 13 at the Annual Petro Canada Sport Leadership Conference in Winnipeg.
Most notably and recently, Norton was acknowledged as the Special Olympics Canada 2015 Male Coach of the Year at the annual Special Olympics Canada Awards and Gala in Toronto on Nov. 19.
Norton is an active member of the Special Olympics Abbotsford local executive as the coaching coordinator, a Team BC performance coach in athletics and a Team Canada athletics coach, attending the World Summer Games in Los Angeles this past July where every one of his athletes was able to share the spotlight on the podium.
The next stop on his journey will be the 2016 Special Olympics National Winter Games in Newfoundland as staff for Team BC.
