Are you an adult that has played hockey in the past or would like to start playing? Do your kids play now and you would like to start? Do you want to get out and get some exercise in a fun environment? Are you nervous about starting to play in an established league with established teams?
Then the No Stars hockey club is looking for you.
The thought behind No Stars is just that: No hotshots, hotdogs or hotheads. If you are just starting out, then you are welcome as well, although full equipment is required.
“Given the success of No Stars hockey in its first year, we are excited get going for the 2013/14 season,” said organizer Chris Barlow by email. “We are looking at the possibility of having two ice times per week if the interest is high enough. We also have a couple of confirmed goalies for the whole season.” Ice times are at the Community Complex on Mondays from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:45 to 10:45 p.m. Different this year, is that instead of paying $10 per ice time, Barlow will be looking to collect money from players for the first half of the season.
Using roughly 20 core players, and two ice times per week starting Sept 16, the first half of the season will be approximately $182. This is about 28 ice times until Christmas. This amount will be less depending on the number of core players, so the more friends you can get on board, the better for all.
The drop in rate will remain at $10 per ice time.
“Another change is an insurance requirement,” said Barlow. “It is through Hockey Canada and costs $22.50 per player or $14.50 for Hockey Canada members.”
This coverage is for the whole year and if you have taken any minor hockey coaching, or speak out type courses you will already be a member.
If you are interested in playing No Stars, please email Chris Barlow at cjbarlow@telus.net with NO STARS in the subject line as soon as possible to assist in the planning.
If you have any usable, used adult hockey gear that you would be willing to give to a new member so they can get started then email Barlow. He can also be reached at 250-365-0326 for those with any questions.
