Oak Bay Division 1 boys high school basketball returns to the court this week when Oak Bay hosts Spectrum at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.
AAA girls high school basketball also continues Jan. 19 when Oak Bay takes on Mt. Doug at Reynolds school at 5:45 p.m.
The University of Victoria Vikes women’s field hockey team heads inside for the the seven-team, UVic-hosted Indoor Tournament Jan. 23 and 24, to be held on the McKinnon Gymnasium floors for the first time.
The Vikes women wrap up their indoor season Feb. 6 and 7 at the B.C. Senior Indoor Tournament, in Duncan.
The UVic men’s and women’s basketball teams are on the road this weekend, playing a doubleheader at the University of Alberta.
Looking forward in Vikes sports, the Rowing Monster Erg / Indoor Championship is coming up on Sunday, Jan. 24, hosted at CARSA.
Also, look forward to Shoot for the Cure Basketball hosted on Jan. 29 at CARSA.
Vancouver Island Division 1 men’s soccer continues in Oak Bay this week.
The Bays United 1 team plays the Vic West FC 1 team tonight (Friday, Jan. 15) at 8 p.m. at UVic. On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Bays United team plays Cowichan at 6 p.m. in Cowichan.
In women’s premier-level play, the Castaway Wanderers visit Gorge FC at Hampton Park at noon Sunday.
The women’s Div. 1 Castaways welcome Cowichan to the Carnarvon pitch at noon Sunday, Jan. 17, while the Bays United women host Prospect Lake at UVic’s Field No. 3.
The boys and girls of summer will be back on the diamond in no time and Oak Bay families in the National Little League catchment are invited to register for the coming season.

The Victoria Cougars return to the ice this week with two games on the calendar. The Cougars hit the road to take on cross-town rivals the Westshore Wolves on Wednesday, Jan. 20 with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. at the Q Centre. Returning home to Archie Browning Arena, the Cougs host the Saanich Braves the following day, Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
For hockey fans wanting to follow their local boys into the annual all-star game, the the Westshore Wolves host the VIJHL mid-season event this Sunday, Jan. 17. The game format is North Island vs. South, with players representing all nine junior B Teams from across the Island.
Puck drop is 5 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for those age five to 18 years.
