Saturday night, Matt O’Brien of Quesnel stepped out of the ring at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA, thinking he had outboxed Lafarrell Bunting.

The crowd on hand was also ready to hand O’Brien the decision for the 10-round super-middleweight bout, O’Brien’s wife Jodi said.

Unfortunately the referees saw the match differently and gave the bout to Bunting on decision.

Two of the referees gave a few point advantage to Bunting and the third called the bout a draw.

“He definitely won the fight,” Jodi said of Matt’s performance.

“He looked great.

“The crowd was very upset over the decision.”

Even the fight promoter felt the fight had gone the other way and afterwards apologized for the shoddy judging performance.

“That was redeeming,” Jodi said.

All considered, O’Brien said he was pleased with his performance.
