Oceanside Minor Hockey’s successful season

The Oceanside Minor Hockey season just finished with a number of local successes.

The Oceanside Minor Hockey season just finished with a number of local successes.

The top eight teams in the peewee division for Island league play went to the playoffs on March 5 and 6 in Lake Cowichan.

The local peewee Warriors team faced Nanaimo #2 first and won 2-1, then the Warriors played for the banner against the Cowichan Valley Royals and won 6-4.

Warriors goals were scored by Will Fox (three goals), Reid Lightle (two) and Caleb Armitage (one), with assists made by Ellyot Cain, Dain Lewis, Markus Wheatley and Jack Stefiuk.

The local peewee Chiefs also took the league play banner for the most games won by any team in the division, but lost in the playoffs.

The Peewee Icebreakers also took the league play banner and won their playoff games to bring that banner home as well in the female division.

In the Oceanside Peewee Tournament, the Warriors had won all four of their games in their pool, against Juan De Fuca C#1, Victoria C#2, Nanaimo Titans and Saanich Braves.

The Oceanside Warriors faced the Campbell River Bears in the gold medal game. With a 4-4 tie they went to overtime and a best out of five shootout. The Warriors won the silver medal.

The Oceanside Chiefs won their bronze game against Victoria Ice Hawks 4-2.
