Parksville will be hosting the Bantam Lacrosse Provincials from July 13-16.
It will be a first for the Oceanside Minor Lacrosse Association who will be partnering with the Nanaimo District Lacrosse Association in staging the event.
There will be 30 bantam teams from all over the province that will be competing for four to five days. The matches will be played at Oceanside Place and some will be held in Nanaimo.
OMLA president John Shafi has indicated the organizing is complete but they’re still in need of help in other areas. They’re still looking for sponsors, donations of prizes and services.
“This is a huge undertaking and a chance to highlight our sport in our community while showcasing our area to the BC lacrosse community,” said Shafi.
The organizers are also looking for food and beverages for all the volunteers and officials throughout the event. Although there are funds available, the OMLA still require discounted or donated meals from local restaurants.
Volunteers are also being sought to assist in various areas like time keepers, security, hospitality rooms, raffle tables, and welcome tables.
If there is anyone who has a business and would be willing to take out advertising in the program for the event or donate products and services, contact Stephanie Cain 250-954-7039, Farrah Lewis 250-927-1977 or Shafi 250-248-7400 in the next week.
The Oceanside Sharks Bantams team, which won the league championships, will take on arch-rivals Nanaimo Timbermen for the Island Championship on Saturday, at 10 a.m. at Oceanside Place.
They have beaten each other throughout the regular season and the Sharks are expecting a barn burner this weekend.
Meanwhile, if the box lacrosse was too short for you, field lacrosse is just around the corner, and registration is open to those interested. For more information, visit www.oceansidelacrosse.com/registration
