Ethan Busch scored on the power play with just over six minutes remaining and Oceanside’s Peewee B Rep Generals carved out an exciting 6-5 exhibition win over the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies on home ice last Saturday.
“Very good effort — they were pretty excited about winning,” Generals’ head coach Tony Seremba said after, pointing out “it was a real good team game,” that saw the locals come back after being down 4-3 at the midway ice-clean.
Oceanside goalie Taylor Lee had a strong game and had to make a couple big stops in the dying seconds with the Grizzlies buzzing the net.
“He made some big saves that kept us in the game and helped us win.”
Jose Hope led the offence with a hat tick, and Ethan Busch, James Schworan and Ashley Barner all added singles, while David Downey and Dawson Fife chipped in with two helpers each.
“It’s a great group,” said their coach. “They’re learning lots, they’re lots of fun to coach and they listen well and work as a team.”
Back at it Sunday for a leaguer against the Tri Port Eagles, the young Generals came up on the short end of a hard fought 5-4 final. The Tier 3 Generals are currently sitting fourth in the 6-team Division 4 made up of a mix of Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams.
GAME ON: The Peewee B Generals are home on Saturday against Saanich for a 2:15 p.m. start.
