One of the B.C. Major Midget League’s most intense rivalries will be renewed this weekend on the coast.
The Okanagan Rockets will visit the Vancouver Northwest Giants in a key two-game set at North Shore Winter Club.
The fourth-place Rockets (14-7-2) are two points back of the Giants (14-4-4) for third spot.
The Rockets are coming of a rare one-game weekend, as they played to a 1-1 tie with the South Island Royals Sunday at CNC.
The Royals were unable to make it to Kelowna on time for the first game on Saturday due bus problems and weather conditions.
The game will be rescheduled for a later date.
South Island opened the scoring late in first courtesy of Ted Brennan, a Kelowna Rockets prospect.
Okanagan turned up the pressure in the second period, firing 17 shots at Royals goaltender Austin Rodin before finally breaking through with 1:11 remaining.
Matt Kowalski set up Shawn Guison for his third of the season to make it 1-1 after two.
Despite several power play chances both ways in the third period, neither team could break the deadlock.
Rodin made 42 saves in the Royals net as the Rockets outshot South Island 43-26.
The Rockets net BCMML home action is Jan. 30 against the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
