Athletes from the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre were a busy lot last weekend as they competed at four different competitions in Kamloops.
Local gymnasts took part in the B.C. Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the 2nd B.C. Cup, Elite Canada for Trampoline and Tumbling, and the Wild West Fest Invitational.
The following are results for OGC athletes:
• B.C. Artistic Championships
Jenna Mick qualified to represent Team B.C. at Western Canadian Championships in the Provincial 5 Novice category. Mick showed a strong finish at this year’s championships which helped her qualify for her first time on Team BC. Mick finished with a silver medal on the uneven bars.
Lucia Jakab is the provincial champ in the Pre-Novice Elite category because of her valiant efforts on the floor exercise where she earned the title as B.C. Floor champion which she finished 0.70 higher than second place. Jakab also won silver on vault.
Gabriela Beselt also competed in the Pre-Novice Elite category and earned silver medal overall just behind her teammate.
Beselt added silver medals for her performances on the balance beam and floor exercise, a bronze medal on the vault and 4th place on uneven bars.
Vanessa Bulcock competed in the Provincial 4 (13-14 year old) category and finished with a bronze medal overall. She also earned bronze on vault and uneven bars.
Yvonne Wood came out on top of the balance beam and is the 12-year-old Provincial 3 beam champion.
Grace Driver earned a silver medal on the uneven bars.
Grace Akurienne finished with a silver medal on the balance beam, and 4th overall in the Provincial 3 11-year-old category.
Camille Phillips earned a bronze medal on the uneven bars, while Jillian Beaudreau earned a bronze medal for her performance on the floor exercise.
Kenedi Woodcox competed in the Provincial 3 10-year-old category and earned the title of Provincial balance beam champion.
In the Provincial 2 level, Kamryn Greenhalgh earned the title of Provincial balance beam champion in the Provincial 2 10-year-old category. Greenhalgh also a 4th place overall finish in one of the largest categories in the province.
Kayleigh Nicolson brought home the silver medal on the uneven bars, while Dixie Cabel earned 4th place on vault.
Amanda Jaggard earned a silver medal on the balance beam in the Provincial 2 8-9 year-old category.
In Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Kaelan Greenhalgh brought home the title of Provincial Level 2 Champion for the 11-12 year olds. Greenhalgh also earned gold medals on pommel horse and parallel bars, silver medals on floor exercise, rings, vault and horizontal bar.
Willis Plant finished in second place overall after finishing as Provincial champion on floor exercise, rings, vault and horizontal bar. He also earned a silver medal on pommel horse and a bronze medal on parallel bars.
Travis Towers finished in third place overall after earned a silver on the parallel bars, bronze medals on pommel horse, rings, vault and horizontal bar.
Jase Goerzen earned the silver medal overall in the Level 4 under 13 category becoming the Provincial Champion on vault and earning silvers on floor, parallel bars and bronze medals on pommel horse, and rings.
Brady Clegg new to the Level 4 category, earned 4th on horizontal bar .
Lucas Fabian and Shane Hiscock competed in the Elite 4 category where they finished in 5th and 6th overall. Fabian earned silver medals on pommel horse, rings and vault. Hiscock earned 4th on vault.
OGC athletes Brooke Murray, Madison Nethercote, Danica Graves, Braelyn Dillon, Samantha Pelletier, Liam Ozechowski, Jack Nyrose and Luca Curcio also competed at the event.
In Level 1, the boys earn a “gold”, “silver”, or “bronze” recognition for their performance on each event.
Rylen Thompson earned “gold” on pommel horse and vault, “silver” on floor, rings and horizontal bar and “bronze” on parallel bars for a “silver” overall.
Eric Chartrand earned “gold” on floor, “silver” on pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar for a “silver” overall.
Jacob Wong earned “gold” on floor, pommel horse, rings and vault, “silver” on horizontal bar and “bronze” on parallel bars for a “silver” overall.
Jackson Campo earned “gold” on floor and pommel horse, “silver” on rings, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar and overall.
• Wild West Fest Invitational
Hayley Zandee competed in the Level 2 (11-12 year old) category and earned a silver medal on the balance beam and sixth on uneven bars.
Makena Marble earned a third place finish overall after earning 4th on balance beam and floor exercise.
Devon Fraser earned a silver on uneven bars, a bronze on floor exercise, for a 5th place overall, while Abigail Erickson earned a bronze on uneven bars.
Aspen Appelt and Naomi Schraeder also competed.
Hailey Pritchard competed in the Provincial 1 (9 year old) category and finished with a bronze overall after earning a gold medal on balance beam and a silver medal on vault.
• 2nd BC Cup
Janiah Harris finished with two silver medals for her performances on the double mini trampoline and in the tumbling event in the Provincial 1 (12 and Under) category.
Isabel Gremmen earned a silver medal in the Provincial 1 (12 & Under) category on the trampoline.
Jaylin Otteson finished with a silver medal on trampoline in the Provincial 3 (13 & Under) category.
Abby McDonald brought home three medals for her performance. She earned a gold medal in Provincial 2 (13 & Under) tumbling, and two bronze medals in Provincial 4 (15 & Under) in trampoline and double mini trampoline.
• Elite Canada
Okanagan Gymnastics Centre had three Senior level trampoline athletes competing at Elite Canada which was also held under the same roof in Kamloops.
Samantha Smith finished in third place in trampoline behind Olympic and World Champion Rosie MacLennan.
Curtis Gerein finished in third place on the trampoline in the Men’s Senior category behind former Olympian from 2008, Jason Burnett. Gerein also earned a silver medal with his synchronized trampoline partner.
