Okanagan Rockets melt Kootenay Ice

The Okanagan Rockets went to 7-1 this season with a pair of victories over the Kootenay Ice in BC Major Midget Hockey.

The Major Midget Kootenay Ice dropped two matches to the high-powered Okanagan Rockets at the Cominco Arena on the weekend.

The Rockets improved their record to 7-1-0 in the BC Major Midget League after 6-2 and 6-1 wins over the 3-7-0 Ice. Six different scorers lifted the visitors to victory on Sunday with goals from Wyatt Head, Max Kryski, Mitchell Gove, Chase Stevenson, Garret Watson, and Coleton Bilodeau, while Simon Nemethy replied for the Ice.

In Saturday’s match up, the Ice trailed just 3-2 heading into the third period, but three Rocket goals in the final frame iced it for the Okanagan team.

Tanner Bahm opened the scoring for the Rockets two minutes into the first and Brandon Della Paolera made it 2-0 at 9:19. The Ice replied when D.J. Horne completed a play from Conner Seib and Christian Macasso to draw Kootenay to within one. However, Stevenson made it 3-1 just 98 seconds later.

The Ice held the Rockets scoreless in the second period and Castlegar’s Aiden Jenner converted a Erik Delaire pass to make it 3-2, but that was as close as the Ice would get. Rayman Bassi, Stevenson, and Dylan Prpich completed the scoring for Okanagan.

The Ice have a weekend off before hitting the road for a pair of games against the 2-8-0 North Island Silvertips in Nanaimo on Nov. 5-6.

The female Midget AAA Kootenay Wild were off this past weekend and are in Campbell River this coming weekend for three games against the Vancouver Island Seals.
