The Okanagan Rockets are making an impact at the 36th Annual Mac’s Midget Tournament.
The team is currently 1-0-1 at the elite event after just two days of play.
On Boxing Day, the Rockets doubled up the host Calgary Midget Flames 4-2 at Father David Bauer Arena.
After 40 minutes of play, the Rockets were up 3-2 and in the final period Jake Kryski solidified the victory with 5:53 remaining for the victory. Brendan Barry went the distance for Okanagan, as he turned aside 24 Flames shots for a win in his first career Mac’s start.
Tanner Wishnowski was named player of the game as he picked up a goal and an assist in the match.
Then the following day the Rockets settled for a 3-3 draw against the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs.
Okanagan was trailing 2-0 just 3:29 into the first period and it wasn’t until just over a minute left that Liam Finlay scored to get the Rockets on the board.
“It wasn’t a very good start for our club,” said Rockets Head Coach Mack O’Rourke. “We had a big penalty kill after falling behind 2 – 0 and I think we started to settle down after that.”
The Rockets pulled even in the second period thanks to a goal from Jake Kryski. Okanagan took a 3 – 2 lead in the final 20 minutes of play but it was short lived as Red Deer tied it up, resulting in the final 3 – 3 tie.
The Okanagan Rockets enjoyed Saturday off as they gear up to hit the ice for their two final round robin games against the Cariboo Cougars and Notre Dame Argos.
