Okanagan Rockets up for Cariboo Cougars

The Okanagan Rockets head to Prince George for a twinbill this weekend, tied for fourth in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League.

The Rockets, who beat the Thompson Blazers 6-3 and tied the Blazers 4-4 last weekend in Chase, are 15-9-6 going into play versus the second-place Cariboo Cougars (16-8-5).

Goalie Harrison Whitlock, forwards Mat Lambert, Harlan Orr and Colton Thibualt, and defencemen Aaron Benjaminson, Jordan Burns and Mac Ferner are all Vernon products with the Rockets.

Orr scored twice, including the equalizer, at 4:14 of the third period, to lead the Rockets Sunday morning at Art Holding Memorial Arena.

Parker Bowles added 1+2 and Justin Marreck completed the Okanagan offence. Conner Richards of Enderby scored once for the Blazers.

Bowles supplied 3+2 and Orr pocketed 1+3 as the Rockets bounced the Blazers Saturday night. Marreck, with 1+2, and Josh Ellis rounded out the Rockets’ attack. Brett Mennear earned two assists, while Burns and Lambert each had one. Richards led the Blazers with two helpers.

Bowles leads Okanagan with 29 goals and 57 points, followed by Orr, with 22-28-50. Lambert has 12-12-24 and Thibault has 4-5-9. Ferner sits with 4-6-10, while Benjaminson and Burns are both at 1-8-9. Whitlock has appeared in 11 games.

The Rockets play the Cougars Saturday night and Sunday morning at the Kinsmen Centre.

The Rockets will face the North Island Silvertips Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3:30 p.m., at the Wesbild Centre.

The Vancouver North West Giants lead the 11-team league at 23-3-6.
