The Skate of Mind Synchronized Figure Skating team won two major competitions this season.

The Skate of Mind Synchronized Figure Skating team won two major competitions this season.

With a pair of significant wins to their credit, the Okanagan-based Skate of Mind Synchronized Figure Skating team has completed a successful 2016-17 season.

The competitive Adult II team, which skates out of the Vernon Figure Skating Club and features seven Kelowna skaters, achieved a first-place result at the BC/Yukon sectional competition in December with a personal best score.

Then on January 28, Skate of Mind won the Mountain Regional competition in Burnaby. The Okanagan women again improved on their personal best score and claimed first place ahead of teams from the Lower Mainland, Edmonton and Calgary.

It was the first time the team had won Mountain Regionals, finishing the season as the highest ranked team in BC and Alberta.

Skate of Mind members are from throughout the valley including Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Vernon and Armstrong.

The team is: Kristy Anderson, Cora-Lee Baker, Vanessa Daley, Paige Fessenden, Shelley Hoffmann, Holly Hudson Bobyn, Karen Langer, Laura Lavallier, Kayla Nixon, Jen Phelan, Britney Powell, Danielle Robert, Haley Scheck, Robin Tien-Nettleton, Tracy Wright, Katie Yavis (captain) and Heather Stranks (coach).
