O’Keefe gives high five for Vernon Devils

Sub City Donair Devils ice Penticton Firefighters 9-8 in the Santa Shootout Pee Wee Rec Hockey Tournament Friday night at Civic Arena.

Finnian O’Keefe scored five times as the Sub City Donair Devils iced the Penticton Firefighters 9-8 in the Santa Shootout Pee Wee Rec Hockey Tournament Friday night at Civic Arena.

Chapperon Chillihitzia (2), Jordan Butler and Brayden Beacom also scored for the Devils. Thomas Waterman and Carson Shortreed each bagged a deuce for the Firemen.

In other Day 1 action, goalie Reece Hawthorne was sensational as the Bannister GM Flames held off the Kamloops Thunderbirds 2-1 at Priest Valley Arena.

Hawthorne made numerous monster saves, including a handful of breakaway stops. Captain Brooke Berube and Jonas Ramsey, both d-men, handled the Flames’ offence, while Grayden Baker scored for the T-Birds.

Ben Wander pulled the hat trick and Sam Taneda supplied two goals as the West Kelowna Warriors ambushed the Stevenson Mechanical Blues 10-4 at Civic.

Noah Russell pocketed 1+2 for West Kelowna, while Cody Webb, with 2+1, Colton Riguidel and Kael Black replied for the Blues.

Tyler Routledge fired two goals as the Winfield Bruins bounced the Butcher Boys Titans 5-3 at Wesbild Centre.

Brendan Moore, Keilan Cutting and Owen Spannier added singles for the Bruins, while Sean Howard, with 1+2, Emily Wilson and Anthony Kennedy countered for the Titans.

The North Delta Damage used two goals from Gurbinder Sidhu in a 6-4 win over Semiahmoo of White Rock at Wesbild. Zachary Mahaffy had a deuce for Semiahmoo.

The A final in the 10-team invitational goes today, 12:15 p.m. at Civic.

Meanwhile, goalie Jordan Wilde was magical as the Watkin Motors Mustangs upended the Kelowna Jr. Rockets 3-1 in Okanagan Mainline Pee Wee Tier 1 Hockey League play Friday night at PV Arena.

Vernon scored first on a goal from Dawson Chase (assists to Nick Cherkowski, Juli Gilowski) and then Kelowna tied it up in the second.

D-man Dylan Sedlacek netted the winner (Coleton Bilodeau) in the second and the insurance marker came from Damien Coljee-Fehr (Cherkowski, Rowan Miller) in the third.

The Rockets came hard at the Mustangs all night but Wilde was in a zone and Vernon’s strong forecheck was effective. The Mustangs take on the Prince George Cougars today (12:30 p.m., Wesbild) in their last league tilt of 2012.

In Midget Super League play, Landon Munk provided five snipes as the Talon Benefits Hawks outgunned the Vernon Authentic Plaque & Trophy Blazers 11-8 Friday night at Civic.

Captain Justin Mitchell collected 3+2 for the first-place Hawks (8-1), while his brother Lucas Mitchell earned 1+2 and other goals came from Chase Larsen and Marcus Kehler.

 

Richard Thompson and Yanik Fillion-Murphy each scored twice for the Blazers, who got singles from Brock Wagner, Mitchell Cousins, Cameron Hitch and Logan Revell.
