Canim Lake takes first place in women's division with top-notch goaltending

The Old Stars Tournament teams played hard for all the marbles at the arena in 100 Mile House on Nov. 11-13.

There were 14 men’s teams competing in three divisions: Age 35 and older, 40 and older and 55 and older.

Results

In the men’s division, the Brew Jays won first place in the Rec Division, while Canim Lake took second place.

In the 40-plus division, Salmon Arm took first place, while the 100 Mile Old Cats were second.

In the 55-plus division, the Kamloops Free Radicals secured first place and 100 Mile Old Stars took second place.

In the final game of the 55-plus, Kamloops managed to defeat the Old Stars 8-3. While Kamloops was only up by one at the end of the first period, they powered ahead in the third period to capture the division title.

Women’s tourney

The Canim Lake Kodiak Bears went undefeated in the women’s division of the Old Stars tournament at Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena in Lac la Hache.

Second place went to the 100 Mile Shooters and third place went to the Quesnel Diggers.

In the finals, Canim Lake knocked off 100 Mile, Canim Lake won the title. The teams were tied 2-2 at the close of the first period, but Canim Lake pulled ahead in the second with two more goals.

All the teams played well, but Canim Lake really showed improvement from previous years” says Lori Forster, organizer of the women’s Old Stars tourney.

It’s good to see them win,” adds Forster, who played for the Shooters.

Canim Lake does not usually win. Their goaltending was especially great this year.”

Canim Lake won two games and tied two games. 100 Mile House garnered one win, two ties and one loss, while Quesnel had two ties and two losses and finished in third place.

Since the fourth team dropped out at the very last minute, we decided that each team would play four games within a six-game tournament.”
