Olin Lee of 2 Rivers Boxing Club showed his skills at the Golden Gloves provincial amateur championship in Mission March 4, as he won his decision in the first round with a technical knockout of Carson Dyck 1:14 into the first round.
“I trained pretty hard for the bout and I dropped him in the first round so it went as good as it could have gone,” Lee said.
He said going into the match he wanted to focus on his game plan.
“I wanted to stay away from his reach because he had quite a height advantage on me so I stayed inside,” Lee said.
This was not the first fight between the two.
“I expected it to be a close fight between the two like the previous one but Olin came out throwing and showed his power game,” Head coach Wally Doern said.
He added they changed their game plan up from the previous contest.
“I cautioned Olin they would probably change up their strategy but we also changed our’s up from a scientific style to a power game and I don’t think they were expecting that,” Doern said.
Leading up to the bout Lee was working on a number of different areas.
“I was sharpening up all of my skills and was concentrating on my straight, power and multiple punch combinations,” Lee said.
Doern says Lee has progressed in every aspect since his last bout and is now a double threat in the ring.
“In my opinion Olin has two different styles of boxing,” Doern said.
“The first is being a good scientific boxer and he also has the punching power to end fights early.”
Although Lee headlined the night, 2 Rivers also had Emmet Emblau compete in an exhibition match, where he showed good footwork and head movement in the ring.
Next up for 2 Rivers will be Rumble 22 on March 25 which will feature some of the best boxers the province has to offer. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bouts start at 7 p.m.
