DELTA — A true Canadian champion is helping the Delta Sports Hall of Fame celebrate 10 years of sports achievement.
Olympian Elizabeth Gleadle will deliver the keynote address as the Delta Sports Hall of Fame recognizes a new class of inductees at its gala banquet on Oct. 17.
Gleadle, the Canadian record holder in javelin, has represented Canada numerous times in international competition, most notably in the 2012 Olympics in London, where she qualified for the final and finished 12th. Gleadle won the 2015 Pan American Games gold medal in Toronto, beating a very strong field including US record holder Kara Winger.
“We are so excited to welcome Liz to the banquet,” said Rick Lewall, Delta Sports Hall of Fame president. “She is a dynamic speaker and Olympian who not only represented Canada in London but has also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her insights into becoming a world-class athlete will be a great message for those that are able to join us at the banquet.
“It should be a wonderful night celebrating so many accomplishments.”
The gala will be held at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn. Tickets are on sale for the banquet and can be purchased by calling the Delta Gymnastics Society at 604-943-0460.
