With three consecutive cuts missed by a single stroke, Megan Osland was due for a breakthrough on the Symetra Tour.
The 24-year-old from Kelowna posted her best professional result over the weekend in French Lick, Indiana, tying for 14th place at the Donald Ross Centennial Classic.
Osland finished at 2-under par, 211 (70-72-69) and picked up $3,038 US for her efforts.
After making just one cut in her previous 10 tournaments this year, patience and persistence finally paid off for Osland.
“It has been frustrating to have missed the last three cuts by one shot, but I have made huge strides in my game both technically and mentally since the beginning of the season,” Osland said. “We played a tough course this week, so I am really happy with the way I performed out here and will continue to build off of this moving forward.”
On a course she described as “hard, challenging and with interesting greens,” Osland finished strong, shooting a 3-under par 69 in the final round, punctuated by a six-foot birdie putt on the 18th.
Osland hopes her latest result will be a sign of things to come.
“Going forward my game feels good,” said Osland, a KSS grad. “I am going to be working hard on my putting in particular because I had a handful of putts this week that were just burning the edge of the hole, and if I can get a few more to drop I know that I can go really low. I am excited to see what the rest of the season holds for me.”
Osland remains in Indiana this week where she is caddying for Gail Graham at the Senior LPGA Championship. A product of Kelowna, Graham is a former two-time winner on the LPGA Tour.
Osland’s next stop on the Symetra Tour is July 20 to 23 in Rochester, NY.
