The Little Tex Outlaws lassoed Dr. Lee’s Dental Clinic 4-0 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #2.
Goals by Kira Lee and Monica Neilson put Little Tex up 2-0 at the half. Keeper Eileen Pelliccia denounced potential Dr. Lee goals with the solid backing of sweeper Cayla Brown and stopper Stephanie Conti.
Defender Kristy Anderson started the advance of the first goal in the second half to Lee, who fashioned a Premier League-style string-of-pearl passes to forwards Maria Thorlakson and Neilson, with Lee slamming home the 3-0 goal.
With talent, finesse and speed, veteran Sarah Strobila added the fourth goal.
Lisa Stewart, Brianna Ostafie and Stacey Cover and Christine Fraser were especially sharp on the wings as the Texans parlayed team work, communication, fitness and fun into success.
Excellent officiating was turned in by referee Shannon Mazereeuw and her assistants.
In other first division action, Hailey Woon netted the hat trick as the AF Blazers shut out Wrap Zone 3-0 at Marshall Field #1.
Woon opened the scoring 10 minutes into the first half, converting a cross from Shelby Price. Woon knocked in the second goal off a scramble after Jane Sutton crossed in a beautiful corner.
Late in the second half, Woon took advantage of a defensive miscue to round out the scoring.
Sutton and Amanda Swales had solid games in the middle with defensive support from Jeanette Maleska and Jessica Brewis. Katie Hatten earned the shutout.
Player of the Game for the expansion Wrap Zone was keeper Kelsey Paulin, who was relentless, confident and aggressive on the ball.
Sam Knight took a turn on defence and was solid, while forward Kayla McGillveray and midfielder Harmony Crockett had masterful nights.
“The whole team is making a great effort to bond and create dynamics within learning to play different positions for the better of the team,” said Dana Lazar of the Wrap Zone, coached by Greg Thalheimer.
Impact defence iron clad
In Masters Division play Tuesday night, the Longhorn Impact brushed back the Chick Kickers 1-0 at Marshall #4 for their second straight shutout.
Newcomer Lauren Harris scored midway into the second half, after taking a ball into the box and tapping it past the keeper.
The Impact enjoyed a few other chances with Edeen Ramsey shooting just to the right of the net, on a nifty feed from Heather Findlay. Sweeper Breanna Pickett was mighty and Julie Hamer was stellar in net.
The Chick Kickers, under the direction of new head coach Gary Dill, worked hard in their first game, getting strong efforts from Bonnie Mann, Shauna Duncan, Wendy Magnus, Wendy Martens, and Kelly Mazurak. Newcomer Robyn Sherwood was outstanding in net.
Goplen’s Drillers and North Okanagan United ran to a scoreless draw at Marshall #4.
Shaun Nickoli recorded the clean sheet for the Drillers, having time to give herself a manicure due to the strong defensive play of newbie Barb Levesque, Krista MacCagno, Jody Peshko, Christine Castrucow, Kate Ball and Karen Zupp.
The Drillers also welcomed Jen Poulin, who enjoyed a magical game at midfield. Michelle Loxam, also a midfielder, delivered some sweet corners which resulted in near goals for the Drillers.
Shelley Zupp, returning after a season away travelling, had some good chances in front of NOU’s net.
Player of the Game for United was Lumby’s Penny Crebo-Dolman, who commanded the defensive line stopping every ball and running down anyone coming over the line.
Dar Weis recorded the shutout, coming out and making several saves in and out of the net.
Carly Bibby was tremendous up front, receiving many balls from the defenders and outside midfielders to create goals, but was thwarted by the unstoppable Nickoli. Midfielder Teresa Collins was first to the ball all game.
The Controllers bowed 3-0 to Shuswap Merlot in their Masters opener Tuesday at MacDonald Park.
An early defensive miscue proved costly for the Controllers as Merlot’s Julie Parenteau pounded a shot from 15 yards out to beat keeper Mickey Templeton.
Early in the second half, Kelsey Norlin hit a line drive from well out that took a fortunate bounce past Templeton. Merlot added another before the final whistle.
The Controllers had their chances but couldn’t find the back of the net. Midfielders Lesley Epp, Michelle Mercer and Shawn Yargeau had strong games, as did Krista Backer and Emma Louie up front.
