The Mission City Outlaws got back on track on Saturday, pummeling the Surrey Knights 7-2 on home ice.
Mission had 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first, but the Knights tied the game up twice to end the first period tied at two.
Forwards Kyle Lennea and Kieran Brunetti scored in the first for the Outlaws.
The floodgates opened after the first, with the Outlaws scoring three unanswered goals in the second period and two more in the third.
Taylor Myer, Jeremy Zomar and Justin Bowerman tallied in the second, with Lennea and Zomar each adding their second goals on the night to build the lead.
Outlaws goalie Keaton Dyck made 39 saves to pick up his first-ever win in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.
Mission head coach Brad Veitch said it was a strong showing from the rookie netminder.
“I was really impressed,” he told the Outlaws website. “Both goals they scored on him weren’t his fault. I mean we put one in ourselves and the other was a strange bounce high off the stanchion we lost sight of. For him to recover mentally and give us the second period he did speaks volumes about him.”
Lennea, Brunetti and Sammy Zeinab all had three-point nights for Mission.
“It was nice to get the win,” Veitch added. “A game like this allowed me to give more ice time to a few guys than they would normally see.”
The Outlaws improved to a record of four wins, six losses and one overtime loss with the win, and they sit in fourth place in the Harold Brittain conference.
Mission next hosts the Port Moody Panthers on Saturday. Faceoff is set for 6:45 p.m. at the Mission Leisure Centre.
