The Little Tex Outlaws shaded the NET Celtics 2-1 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Thursday night at Marshall Field #5.
Emily Corrie scored first for the Outlaws, burying her own rebound on a breakaway attempt stopped by the NET keeper Charmaine Biagioni.
Monica Neilson supplied the winner on a beautiful left-footed blast which gave the keeper no chance.
Eilina Huisken had a great game up front for the Outlaws (4-6-1) and actually scored, but was taken down in the penalty area. The referee made a controversial decision and did not allow the goal.
The Outlaws’ defence stifled the speedy Celtic forwards time after time. Kelsey Krahn and Jen Knopf were rock stars in the middle and Stacey Cover went in hard all night.
The Celtics opened the scoring early when a corner from Ashley Krause was mishandled in the box and Jodi Bariesheff capitalized.
With the 4-4-3 Celtics missing a few bodies, they had many players playing in new positions, including Paige Rachwalski, who was strong in center-mid.
In a soggy Competitive Division match-up Friday night, the AF Blazers fell 4-0 to Glenn Power Contracting of Salmon Arm.
The Blazers played a phenomenal first half, taking a scoreless draw to the break. The waterlogged Blazers allowed four goals in the second half, with keeper Jeanette Maleska making several brilliant saves to keep the score respectable.
Strikers Krista Ference and Marjorie Boisvert connected for some quality scoring chances but were unable to convert.
n In Division 2 action Thursday night, the OMG Chick Kickers scored three first-half goals to topple Centerline Attack 3-0 at Marshall #4.
Cara Main, Jenelle Woods and Ashley Smith supplied goals for the Kickers, who got some great runs through the middle by Michelle Casanova and Smith. Soon-to-be-married Nadine Krywonos, Bobbi Catt, Michelle Doroshuk, Monica Holubowski and Erica August anchored the back line in front of keeper Wendy Nadeau.
Sue Bowler, Jen Garnett and Jackie Main were strong in the middle, while Karen Woods was steady on the wing.
(Lean) Lena Dean scored three times as NOU grounded the shorthanded Randy Rockets 9-4 in Masters action at Marshall #5. The Rockets only had seven players.
In Division 2 play at Marshall #2, Sunterra Custom Homes Sista’s blanked Capri Insurance 4-0.
Sunterra got their first goal at 15 minutes when Tania Wirachowsky made a beautiful cross in front to Amanda Gaythorpe, who tipped it to Carmen Kinniburgh, who buried a shot just out of reach of the keeper.
The next goal came from Maddy Demers, who fought hard to keep possession, running, deking, and dodging all the way from centre before beating the keeper.
Sunterra went up 3-0 when a Jennie Currie cross landed in front of the net where Demers and Kinniburgh each took cracks at it, only to have it ricochet off a few defenders and come finally to the feet of Gaythorpe, who went roof daddy for her first career goal.
Currie had many close calls with her beauty shots but consistently saw her ball go just outside the top right of net.
Angela Otto settled the play down with a smart pass back to defender Crystal Flasch, who then sent a beauty through ball to Currie, who this time made no mistake putting it in under the crossbar to close the offence. Suzyn August made some beautiful saves in recording a shutout in her first game as the Sista’s keeper.
In a make-up Masters Division game Wednesday night in Salmon Arm, Seasons Sista’s bowed 8-2 to Setters Pub.
Speedy (Bubbles) Becky Birbilis broke in from a beautiful through pass and connected a hard blast in the corner pocket for the first Sista’s goal. Shannon Walton later tapped in a one-timer off a gorgeous cross from Birbilis.
The Sista’s tried new positons to create some fun and change with stopper Sherry Wiebe playing some forward and striker Andrea Zubot trying out some defence.
n Striker Mike Lloyd pulled a second-half hat trick as Kal Tire shelled Silver Stars 7-2 in men’s 50+ league action at Marshall #3 Thursday night.
Fellow striker Kevin Mitchell, perhaps inspired by making the Zone team for the upcoming B.C. Senior Games, neatly nodded in a Mark DeVolder chip cross and set up Jenne Huberts twice, to give Kal Tire an early 3-0 lead. Mitchell’s teammates voted him the Interior Bottle & Freight Man of the Match.
Defender Roger Irving switched spots with Lloyd in the final 10 minutes and buried a two-footer on a feed from Huberts. Kal Tire improved to 9-5-1. John Garner and Rob Ross received giftwrapped passes and handled the 5-7-3 Stars’ offence.
