Bragging rights are back in the Kelowna Owls’ hands.
For the first time since 2011 in local high school football, KSS is celebrating a victory over the rival Mt. Boucherie Bears.
On Friday at the Apple Bowl, the Owls pushed their regular season record to 4-2 with a 26-20 victory over the Bears.
Parker Simson was again the offensive catalyst for the Owls, throwing two touchdown passes and running for two more on 179 yards rushing. Seth Campbell chipped in with 203 all-purpose yards.
“It was a big win for us, a big win for the program,” said Owls’ assistant coach Alex Blanchard. “It’s the first time these kids have beaten the Bears, they’ve had our number the last few years.”
Just as importantly, the win has improved the Owls’ seeding for the playoffs as they move into a third-place tie with Lord Tweedsmuir.
KSS and Tweedsmuir will meet head on to decide third place this weekend—kick off on Saturday at CNC is 3:30 p.m.
The Bears, meanwhile, finished the regular season at 3-4 and will be the Eastern Conference’s fifth-seed heading into the playoffs.
Voodoos host Mouat
Coming off their first win of the season, a second straight victory would be enough to get the Rutland Voodoos into the B.C. high school playoffs.
On Friday at the Apple Bowl, the 1-5 Voodoos will host the 1-5 W.J. Mouat Hawks.
The winner will earn the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, while the loser is out. Kick off is 6:30 p.m.
The Voodoos celebrated their first victory of the 2014 season on Friday, slipping past the Centennial Centaurs 31-30.
Led by Cory McCoy, the Voodoos overcame an 18-point deficit for the win. McCoy, who scored three touchdowns, caught a 40-yard TD pass for the go ahead points with two minutes to play.
