Kelowna News: KSS beats Tamanawis in provincial 4A boys basketball final in Langley

From the season’s opening tip-off, the Kelowna Owls were favoured to win their first ever B.C. high school boys 4A basketball title.

On Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre, KSS lived up to its advanced billing.

Tournament MVP Grant Shephard scored 31 points and added 22 rebounds as the Owls downed the Tamanawis Wildcats 87-72 in the provincial championship final.

Colin McGrath added 19 points and Parker Simson, the tournament’s defensive MVP, scored 15 as the Owls became the first Okanagan team to conquer the highest level of high school boys basketball in B.C.

The Owls, who went a perfect 26-0 against B.C. opponents this season, easily knocked off Terry Fox (90-55), Holy Cross (94-62) and Walnut Grove (86-71) en route to Saturday’s final against the No. 4-ranked Wildcats.

Shephard, Simson and Bourcier were all named to the provincial championship all-star teams.

KSS head man Harry Parmar picked up the Roger Morrow award as the winning coach.
