The stars of Abbotsford-based Pacific Pro Wrestling return to the squared circle next month, and the event is aiming to put a headlock on local homelessness.
PPW’s third show, set to occur at the Abbotsford Arts Centre on May 11, is titled Wrestling with Homelessness and proceeds from the event will go towards Cyrus Centre.
The show is highlighted by a four-team tag team tournament, with both members of the winning team qualifying for a tournament later this year to crown the promotion’s first-ever champion.
Opening round tag team tournament matches feature The Voros Twins challenging the duo of Shreddz and Travis Cole, known as Bow Ties and Biceps. The other opening round bout sees The Breakfast Club (“Beef Boy” Elliot Tyler and Judas Icarus) taking on Adam Ryder and Davey Deals.
The winners of those two matches then will square off against each other in the show’s main event.
A fatal four-way is also scheduled, with a quarter of competitors all entering the PPW ring for the very first time. Chase James, Pitfall Jones, Matt Xstatic and a wrestler to be determined will battle it out.
A women’s triple threat contest sees returning star Scarlett Black challenge debuting stars Bambi Hall and Riea Von Slasher. Hall, a second-generation star, has been making a big name for herself both in B.C. and Washington State promotions in recent years. Von Slasher has competed all over the province, and is a top star for Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling. Black has a 2-0 record in PPW action.
The other scheduled bout features Abbotsford’s Todd Quality competing against Tony Baroni. Both wrestlers have appeared on the first two PPW shows. Quality has a record of 2-0, while Baroni is 1-1.
Proceeds from the event will go to Cyrus Centre, which helps provide homeless youth, 18 and under, a temporary, safe place to stay while working with the youth towards a long-term solution.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with the bell-time set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and cost $20 for front row, $15 for general admission and $10 for kids 10 and under. They are also available online on eventbrite.ca.
An after-party at The Canadian Brewhouse and Grill in Abbotsford is also scheduled for later that night.
