Pair of gold for throwers

Local pair win the national youth track and field championships in Langley.

Olivia Moriconi, of Pitt Meadows, and Natasha Akbarizadeh, of Maple Ridge, won gold at the national youth track and field championships in Langley, recently.

Moriconi claimed gold in the girl’s under 18 discus, with a throw of 44.25 metres en route to winning her first national title .

The distance was also a personal best for Moriconi. The Pitt Meadows resident also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 56.21 m.

Akbarizadeh followed in her teammate’s footsteps, throwing a personal best 12.78 m to win gold in the hammer throw.

It was Akbarizadeh’s first national title.

Akbarizadeh, a student a Garibaldi Secondary, finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.78 m.
