Palahniuk piling up titles

Kelowna's Lynda Palahniuk claims Spallumcheen Ladies Open.

Another day, another golf tournament win for Lynda Palahniuk of Kelowna.

Just five days after claiming the Baron Insurance title at the Vernon club, the 60-year-old member of the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame carded a 77 to win the Spallumcheen Ladies Open.

Palahniuk, who won four Manitoba amateur titles, took the Spall crown by retrogression over Chelsey Cooper of Gallagher’s Canyon in Kelowna.

There was a field of 95 with Pat Shippit of Kamloops earning the overall low net trophy at 66.

Low gross champions in the second through fourth flights were Spall golfers Carolyn Berube (81), Noreen Payne (93) and Edel Venus (102).

Second low gross by flights were Melanie Grant of Kelowna (80), Blanche Delanoy of Royal York (93), Diane Oakden of Spall (98) and Sharon Ballinger of Shuswap Lake Estates (104).

Gwen Redfern of Summerland took third low gross in the top flight at 85, followed by Mary Caldwell of Shuswap Lake (94), Sylvia Tyldesley-Gore of Spall (99) and Pat English of Shuswap Lake at 100.

Fourth low gross finishers by flight were Valerie Eibner of Summerland (87), Helen Jagow of Spall (95), Gloria Regier of Spall (99) and Maureen Wiltzen of Shuswap Lake (110).

Vanessa Smith of Revelstoke was first low net in the top flight at 69, followed by Marsha Allen of Spall (72), Barbara D’Orazio of Vernon (73) and Annette Hansen of Shuswap Lake (73).

Ariel Thorburn of Spall was second low net in the fourth flight at 74, while Angie Dauncey of Royal York finished third in the second flight at 74 and Keiko Nomura of Spall was third in the fourth flight at 76.

Flight KPs went to Cooper, Delanoy, Eleanor Payment of Shuswap and Nadine Haneman of Vernon, while long drives were recorded by Cooper and Shuswap players Donna Allison, Beb Batso and Lana German.

Berube, Delanoy, Marina Heitner of Predator Ridge, Payne and Judy Thrift of Royal York recorded deuces.
