A reminder the 11th annual January Junket old-timers hockey tournament takes over Oceanside Place Jan. 8-9.

Admission is free with games going on at both rinks starting at 8:30 a.m. through to around 3 p.m.

Tournament co-founder cum Parksville city councilor Al Greir and his Panters’ cronies also host the World Classic tournament in early September.

There are four age divisions in the Junket: 60+, 65+, 70+, and 75+.

“We have 14 teams this year,” Greir explained from behind the end-glass at Victor Kraatz Arena, and confirmed “it’s always a good time.”

The tourney’s 16 teams are divided up evenly with four teams in each of the four age divisions; 60+, 65+, 70+, and 75+.

The Panters are part of the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association (PGOSA) which has some 1,200 members in the Oceanside area.
