The girls volleyball team from Abbotsford Senior Secondary capped an undefeated season by winning the Fraser Valley Tier II championship.
The Panthers went a perfect 22-0 in Tier II, which features teams which would otherwise play in the AAAA, AAA and AA leagues. There is no provincial championship for Tier II.
At the Fraser Valleys, Abby Senior beat Tamanawis, Westview and Thomas Haney en route to the final, where they swept Princess Margaret of Surrey in three straight sets.
“We put a lot of work in, and we have a lot of girls who play multiple sports,” noted coach Paul Peters, whose team claimed its second consecutive Tier II Valley crown.
“The league has told us we should really go Tier I next year, and I think we will. But it’s a big jump.”
Marumi Namba, a Japanese exchange student, was named MVP of the Valley tourney, while Gurpreet Dhaliwal and Monica Schaal were all-stars.
