Panthers rule pool play in volleyball

The VSS Panthers and Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops won their pools in the Fulton Maroons Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament Friday.

The VSS Panthers and Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops won their pools in the Fulton Maroons Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament Friday.

VSS, coached by Keith Becker, grounded the Kalamalka Lakers 2-1 (19-25, 25-23, 15-9), got swept 2-0 (27-26, 25-20) by the Princess Margaret Mustangs of Penticton and then brushed back the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops 2-0 ( 25-8,25-15)

The Lakers placed second in Pool B by defeating Westsyde 2-0 (25-10, 25-19) and icing Princess Margaret 2-0 (25-14, 25-20).

Westsyde took third by outlasting  Princess Margaret 2-1 (18-25, 25-22, 17-16).

Sa-Hali topped Pool A by shutting down the Prince George Polar Bears 2-0 (25-15, 25-15), mauling the Merritt Panthers 2-0 (25-11 25-15) and sweeping Fulton 2-0 (25-14, 25-20).

Prince George finished second by turning back Fulton 2-0 (25-19,25-22) and dispatching Merritt 2-0 (25-23,25-17).

Fulton was third after taking out Merritt 2-0 (25-13, 25-20).

Saturday’s quarterfinal matches had VSS battling Merritt Kal meeting Fulton,  Prince George going up against vs Westsyde, and Sa-Hali squaring off with Princess Margaret.

The semis and championship matches went early Saturday afternoon.
