NORTH SAANICH — Parkland Secondary School’s track and field team performed well at the B.C. finals in Nanaimo June 2 to 4.

The school was able to provide these results from the provincials.

• Grade 10 athlete Ben Sammons earned double silver medals and finished second in the province in the junior boys 100-metre hurdles event.

He repeated that achievement in the 300m hurdles. Sammons, according to the school, put together four amazing runs in the heats and finals and was a “great ambassador for Parkland and the sport of track and field.”

• Sayril (no last name given), a Grade 11 student, finished fourth in the event in the senior boys long jump.

He also made the final of the boys 100m race and ended up seventh in the province. He added an eighth place finish in the boys 200m race.

• Paulina Pastor, one of Parkland’s international students, finished sixth in junior girls shot put and was the top Island finisher in that event at the provincials.

• Michaela Pennell had a great day throwing the javelin and hammer, stated the school.

• Parkland’s senior boys 4x100m relay team of Sammons, Sayril, Michael Taylor and Jarrod Harris finished ninth in the province — missing the final heat  by less than half a second.

• The senior boys 4x400m relay team  of Sammons, Sayril, Josh Carmichael and Harris, had to run without powerhouse, Michael Taylor, but did an amazing job finishing in the  top 15.
