Parksville novices prevail in Port Alberni tournament

Lloyd Pelton, Gerda Veld claim district novice single titles

Parksville Lawn Bowling Club sent its best new lawn bowlers to Port Alberni last weekend and came home with a sweep of the men’s and women’s titles in the District Novice singles and pairs championships.

Lloyd Pelton and Gerda Veld of the Parksville club powered through challenging conditions to take the their titles as Novice Men’s and Women’s champions, respectively.

“What’ s really cool is that these people took their lessons in April, played in club tournaments throughout the spring and summer, then both won in our club’s Novice Singles tournament in July,” club member Carol Bucyk said. “And here we are, in September, winning District titles. It really is an awesome effort on both their parts.”
