Brandon Busby put a stop to Marc Whelton in the closing seconds of the second round of his golden gloves fight last week, earning himself the title of the B.C. Super-Middleweight Golden Gloves champion.
The 25-year-old Busby, from Parksville, finished Whelton off in the final seconds of the second round after an impressive first round for Busby as well.
Spending time training with fellow Parksville resident Aubrey “Bam Bam” Morrow before the bout in Langley on November 6, Busby came in prepared and ready to rumble.
“We had a really good training camp,” Busby said.
“Aubrey had his fight in Quebec and I was getting ready for this one in Langley, so we were both in really good shape leading up to our fights.”
“It’s nice to be able to have a guy like that to spar with and train with, we’re there to push each other and I came into this one feeling really good.”
Following the victory, Busby will now look to his next bout upon his return from South America; a potential match-up with the B.C. amateur champion Julian Kim.
“That’s the idea,” Busby said. “We’re just fresh off this last fight and I’m going travelling for two months so once I come back, we’ll see what the game plan is but that’s what I’d like to try and see happen.”
• Aubrey ‘Bam Bam’ Morrow fell short in his recent attempt to win the Canadian Middleweight title. Morrow lost in an eighth round TKO to champ Francis Lafreniere in Lafreniere’s hometown of Repentigny, Que. on Oct. 24.
