PCS open the single-A provincials against Similkameen at 6:30 p.m. today.

For a second straight year—last year in AA and this year in A competition—the Pacific Christian Pacers senior girls’ basketball team has taken home the Island championship. The Pacers are headed to the single-A B.C. High School Basketball Provincials at Duncan Christian March 8 to 11.

At Islands, PCS defeated Queen Margarets and Matsqui to advance to the Island finals versus St. Andrew’s Sabres. In a back-and-forth match, the Sabres were up three in the first quarter, the Pacers were up five at half-time and by just three with a quarter to go.  With a late surge, the Sabres took a six-point lead only to have the Pacers make a final run of 11 straight points in the final 90 seconds to win 66-61.

Pacific Christian’s Rachelle Easton earned the Island MVP honour. First team all-stars included Emily Blair and Julia Falzon of St. Andrew’s and Bethany Brotherston of PCS, with Alex Ellison of PCS named a second team all-star.
