The Yan’s Restaurant Peewee Tier 3 Silvertips welcomed teams from across B.C. to Sicamous for their home tournament this past weekend.

Friday, the Tips opened the festivities with a tilt versus Penticton. After the Junior Vees opened the scoring, Gage Parrell would get the Silvertips on the board early in the second, tipping a point shot past the Penticton netminder. Linden Walters, Jayden Bitz and Caleb DeHoog would score to give the Tips a lead heading into the third. Salmon Arm would keep the pedal to the metal in the final frame. Oscar Mayes, and DeHoog and Bitz with their second, handed the Silvertips a 7-1 victory.

Their second game on Friday saw the Tips facing off against visiting Kamloops. It didn’t take long for Salmon Arm to get on the board in this one, scoring early and often. Landon Lawrence would open the scoring just six minutes into the game, sliding across the goal mouth with the goalie down and out, wristing it into the back of the net. Kamloops would get a pair to take a lead into the second, but that’s where their good luck would end. Gage Parrell, Trent Thiessen, Oscar Mayes and Lawrence with his second would give the Tips a 6-2 lead heading into the third. Lawrence would get his third to complete the hat-trick and Aiden Berukoff would hammer in a one-timer from the slot to give the Tips an 8-2 win.

Caleb DeHoog scored the lone marker for the Silvertips in their third game to finish out the round robin against West Kelowna, dropping a 3-1 decision and setting up the semi-finals on Sunday. The second-place Tips met the first-place Kelowna Rockets with a trip to the finals on the line. Kelowna would open the scoring early in the first, but DeHoog would answer back for Salmon Arm, jamming the puck into the corner after a scramble in front of the net. After a scoreless second period, Kelowna would pull ahead in the third before Gord Squires would again get the Tips even with a one-timer from the slot. The teams traded chances in the third before Kelowna took the lead with seven minutes left in the game. Try as they might, Salmon Arm couldn’t come back for the third time, and lost by a final score of 3-2.

The Silvertips finish out the regular season next weekend with a pair of games against North Oak and Kamloops.
