A trio of athletes will be looking to return to the podium at the B.C. Summer Games in Abbotsford this summer.
Beau Chetner, Kale Lawrence and Colin Duffield will be members of the midget box lacrosse team representing the Okanagan at the games, and each of them was on the bronze medal winning team from the 2014 Summer Games in Nanaimo.
“Winning last year just makes me want to go back again, and prove to myself that we’re still up there,” Chetner said. “We’re from the Okanagan, but we’re still as good as teams from Vancouver and we can prove that by winning a medal.”
Lawrence echoed his thoughts.
“I’m hoping for top three, there are a lot of good teams heading down there but I feel like we can do well,” he said. “Last time we came third, so I feel like we can do just as well this year. I’m going to work my hardest and help the team as much as I can.”
Working together as a team and giving everything they have will be key to their success in Abbotsford.
“We’ll have kids from all over the valley and not a lot of practice days beforehand,” Chetner said. “We’ve got to stay focused and put out our best. It’s all we can do.”
Having the experience of playing in the B.C. Summer Games before has helped the boys as they prepare for the tournament, as Lawrence noted he’s not as nervous as he was prior to his first Summer Games.
Joining Lawrence, Chetner and Duffield on the midget box team are Brendan Craig, Freddy Harbinson, Nash Moog, Ben Olsen, Connor Ramage and Cairo Rogers.
Representing the Okanagan on the U15 field lacrosse team are Keegan Allen, Aidan Canada, Logan Cote, Aidan Danby, Jackson Jamieson, Ethan Konno, Rhys MacDonald and Jacob Stewart.
The 2016 B.C. Summer Games will be held from July 21 to 24. For more information on the Games visit bcgames.org.
