Approximately 1,700 spectators packed the Penticton Speedway for the Day of Destruction championship on Oct. 30.

And they were treated to an entertaining day. Conrad Brightman captured the Hornet A class by 33 points over Cory Krickemeyer, while the popular Hit to Pass, was even tighter. Kelly Milroy topped Dale Brett 871 to 851 points.

“I had  people telling me they thought it was the best destruction event of the year,” said Speedway owner Johnny Aantjes. “I thought it was a great event, but I thought it was a little tame compared to some of our events. Everybody was very happy.”

Aantjes called the Hit to Pass a good battle to the end.

The final day featured strong car counts in the street stock, won by Aaron Yazlovasky, and Hit to Pass. The Dwarf cars event was won by Rick Taylor. Aantjes said in all of the classes drivers were in competition for the championship.

“It made for some exciting finishes,” he said.

Aantjes said all the winners had a strong season.

The attendance for the final day topped the season average of 1,400. Aantjes said anytime they can get that kind of a crowd at the end of October, they are doing pretty good.

“We’ve had some really good strong years,” said Aantjes. “The participation has been good. We’re hoping to carry on the way we are.”

For the first time in eight years, the Speedway will have an awards  banquet being held Nov. 12. at Tug’s Taphouse.
