Penticton Vees continue pod dominance with two weekend wins

The Vees are now 9-1-0-0 on the season

The Penticton Vees continued their dominance in their shortened 20-game pod season this weekend at the South Okanagan Events Centre, improving their record to 9-1-0-0 with a pair of convincing victories over the Trail Smoke Eaters (4-5-0-0-0) and Cranbrook Bucks (1-8-0-0-0).

The Vees were led by goaltender Kaeden Lane and a two-goal performance from Luc Wilson Saturday (April 17) night in their 3-0 win against the Smoke Eaters.

Lane was fantastic all night, stopping each of the 27 shots thrown his way by the Smoke Eaters.

Luc Wilson started the scoring off for the Vees ten minutes into the opening period, the 19-year-old Duncan, B.C., native would score his second of the game and team-leading ninth of the season in the third period to give the Vees a 3-0 lead.

Liam Malqmuist scored the game’s only other goal to put the Vees up 2-0 in the second frame with his third of the year.

Sunday (April 18) saw the Vees dominance continue with a convincing 5-1 victory over the struggling Cranbrook Bucks, despite have a short-handed lineup.

Picking up from where he left off on Saturday night’s game, Kaeden Lane was terrific in the Vees’ goal in making 20 saves on the night.

Tyler Ho opened the scoring in the first period for the Vees with his third of the year. Jacob Quillan kept the ball rolling in the second period, putting the Vees up 2-0 with his sixth on the season.

And, Vees’ leading goal-scorer Luc Wilson extended his point streak to 10 games with his tenth goal of the season to give the Vees a 3-0 lead in the second period.

The Bucks would score their lone goal of the night with a goal from Walker Gelbard to make to score 3-1 heading into the third.

The Vees added two more goals in the final frame — one from Liam Malmquist who put home his fourth of the year and another from Ryan Upson who scored his fifth — as they cruised to a 5-1 win.

The Vees will have two days off before they look to continue their winning ways against the Trail Smoke Eaters Wednesday, April 21 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
