The BCHL confirmed Saturday that one player from the Penticton Vees has tested positive for COVID-19.
The league made a post on its website, saying they have reached out to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) for direction and a followup will be conducted by Interior Health.
All members of the Vees have now been placed in 14 day quarantine along with any billets, team personnel and staff who may have been in contact with the player, and the league said they will be tested as soon as possible.
Citing privacy concerns, the league is not releasing the name of the player.
The BCHL is currently not playing games, but teams are practicing in preparation for the hoped-for start of the junior A season in early December.
The league had originally planned to begin play Dec. 2, but pushed that back to Dec. 8 based on rising cases of COVID-19 in the province.
The BCHL has also lost one of its teams for 2020-21 with the United States-based Wenatchee Wild taking a one-year hiatus.
This is the second confirmed COVID-19 case within the league. A single Surrey Eagles player tested positive back in October.
