The Penticton Vees will continue their Fred Page Cup title defence as they visit the Surrey Eagles for Game 1 of the B.C. Hockey League final Friday at South Surrey Arena.
Fred Harbinson’s Vees eliminated the West Kelowna Warriors with a 2-1 overtime win in Game 5 of the Interior final Thursday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Surrey, featuring former Vernon Viper Adam Tambellini, swept the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the best-of-seven Coastal final.
Tambellini, who was dealt from Vernon to Surrey at the carding deadline, leads the post-season goal scoring with nine snipes. He is third in points (9-3-13 in 11 games) behind Eagle teammates Brady Shaw (6-10-16) and Michael Stenerson (6-8-14).
Meanwhile, Curtis Lazar’s Edmonton Oil Kings opened the WHL Eastern Conference semifinal with a 4-1 win over Cole Sandford’s Medicine Hat Tigers Friday night at Rexall Place.
Brady Brassart’s Calgary Hitmen are up 2-0 on the Red Deer Rebels in the other Eastern semi. The Kelowna Rockets hosted the Kamloops Blazers in Game 1 of their Western semi Saturday.
Game 2 goes tonight (5:05) at Prospera Place.
