Vernon skip Trevor Perepolkin has earned a spot in the Canadian Direct Insurance B.C. men’s curling championships, Feb. 5-9, in Vancouver.

Perepolkin and teammates Tyler Orme of Armstrong and Kootenay products Don Freschi and Deane Horning brushed back Trail’s Rob Ferguson 8-6 to win the C qualifier at a regional playdown Sunday in Sparwood.

“We have had a solid season, qualifying in our three World Curling Tour events, losing the semi-final in Red Deer, a game which we were in complete control of,” said Perepolkin, who is coached by father-in-law Terry Bublitz. “We also won a small Nelson event.”

The Perepolkin foursome rebounded from an opening 8-6 loss in Sparwood to Elkford’s Ken McHargue by rattling off three straight wins. They iced Creston’s Josh Firman twice (9-1 and 9-4) and Castlegar’s Myron Nichol 8-1.

They then fell 6-5 to Ferguson in the C division, but stopped him in the rematch to take the second qualifying spot in the double-knockout tourney.

Perepolkin thanked Rob Ellis of Rellish Transport for his sponsorship throughout the season.
