TJ Perepolkin’s Cannacord Wealth Management built an early lead but needed extra ends to shut off Dave Merklinger’s Canwest Propane 7-5 Wednesday night at the Vernon Curling Club.
After blanking the first end, Perepolkin, now 2-1 in the Baron Insurance Super League standings, counted two in the second, forced Merklinger to a single in the third and added a three-ender in the fifth to take a commanding lead.
Merklinger (1-2) made a great last shot to collect three points in the sixth end, and forced an extra end when Perepolkin was an inch heavy on his draw attempt in eight.
The Canaccord skip rebounded with a deuce in the ninth end.
Mark Longworth also built up an early lead, but came up short in a 6-4 loss to Brad Wood’s Nufloors.
Longworth (1-2) opened with a field goal in the first end and traded singles with Wood (2-0) in the second and third.
Nufloors came alive with a triple in four and put the game away with singles in seven and eight after Longworth’s final stone picked.
In a battle of winless rinks, Sherry Heath’s Trademark Packaging shaded Alyssa Kyllo’s Armstrong Optometry 6-5.
Both teams came out strong, trading singles over the first three ends before Kyllo, now 0-3, stole a deuce in four to go up 4-1.
Heath, now 1-1, stormed back with deuces in five and six. She added a single steal in seven after a nice freeze by spare Kevin Geistlinger against four Kyllo stones.
Robbi Kuhn’s North Enderby Timber finished strong to stop Jenn Gerow’s previously undefeated CanHealth/A&G Supply 9-3.
The two rinks, both tied at 2-1, opened by exchanging deuces, Kuhn on a slick tap-back in one, Gerow on a nice draw to the four-foot in two.
The turning point came in the sixth end when Kuhn made a great hit-and-roll to sit two. Gerow’s takeout attempt through a narrow gap was heavy, allowing NET a steal.
After some solid shot making by the Kuhn front end in seven, Gerow faced a tricky hit-and-roll, but overcurled, allowing a steal of four.
