A petition for annual funding for the 70 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department (70MHVFD) from the 70 Mile House tax base was put forth to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
There are 139 residences in 70 Mile House and approval from 50 per cent of the owners with 50 per cent of the assessed value was required to pass.
At the deadline, only 50 approvals were received, representing 37 per cent of residents.
If approved, the 139 property owners within the service area would have had to provide annual tax funding – to a maximum of $15,000 – as a contribution to the cost of providing fire protection service in 70 Mile House. The money would have been used for annual operating and equipment costs.
