The many services provided by PGOSA to our nearly 1,300 members are due to the tireless contributions of our volunteers.

It is a pleasure to profile Bernice Diakow — one of PGOSA’s most active volunteers.

Bernice and her late husband , Bernie, originally came to Vancouver Island from Saskatchewan. They settled in Port Alberni, where Bernie worked in the logging industry.

The couple retired to Parksville in 1991 and soon joined a new sports association — the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association. It had about 100 members then.

Bernice joined PGOSA in 1994 and since 1995 has been volunteering, usually three mornings a week, at the PGOSA sign-up table located in the lobby of the Oceanside Arena.

In addition to all her volunteering, Bernice plays badminton, curls, plays pickle ball and even cycles in good weather.

Bernice is truly a dedicated volunteer making a difference in the community.

Thank you, Bernice, from everyone at PGOSA!

This is the first in a series of profiles on members of the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association (PGOSA), a local sports association for folks aged 55 and over. For details of the numerous sport activities sponsored by PGOSA, visit www.pgosa.org.
