Phase one of Sam Ketcham Pool Project slated to open this month

The Cariboo Regional District and the City of Williams Lake hosted a guided tour Wednesday.

The Cariboo Regional District and the City of Williams Lake hosted a guided tour Wednesday of what the public will reap following the opening of phase one of the Sam Ketcham Pool.

And by all accounts, officials, delegates and SKP working group members are impressed.

The lap pool, scheduled to open later this month, has seen feature after feature redesigned, upgraded and improved.

The second-floor fitness room is also a massive improvement from the original, which now houses all types of equipment and a newly-added walking track.

Parents will, as well, find a completely renovated family change room almost twice the size of the original.

While some minor details still needing to be completed, City of Williams Lake Director of Community Services Geoff Paynton said the public can expect a top-notch product.

“There are a lot of little details that need to get done but this will be great,” he said.

An elevator has been installed for accessibility purposes for users to gain access from the ground floor to the second floor.

Williams Lake city Coun. Laurie Walters, also a member of the SKP working group, said she’s excited to finally open the venue up once again to the public.

“I’m pretty stoked,” Walters said. “It’s pretty exciting. It’s going to be great when it’s opened.”

Phase two of the project, which will be the construction of the leisure pool, is expected to open in October of 2017.
