Pickleball comes to Enderby

Drop-in Pickleball sessions starting at Enderby's A.L. Fortune Secondary on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Canada’s fastest growing sport is about to get a little bit bigger as pickleball is set to start in Enderby.

The first drop-in session goes Wednesday, Nov. 12, 6-7:30 p.m., at A.L. Fortune Secondary.

“We’re just looking for eager people who would like to come and play,” said co-organizer Abby Pavelic, who notes the sport has quickly become popular among the Baby Boomer generation.

“It combines the paddle from ping pong, the court of badminton and the idea of tennis, without the impact.”

Pickleball leagues are already running in Vernon and Salmon Arm, and Pavelic hopes the Enderby sessions will draw athletes who would otherwise commute to those cities to play.

There will be some racquets available for those wanting to try pickleball, as well as introductory lessons to help people learn the basics. Players need to wear clean gym shoes.

Pavelic said they are making drop-in available to all ages and skill levels, adding the main focus will be fun and fitness.

“You can play it at your level,” she said.

Anyone interested in learning more can contact Pavelic at  250-838-9280, or Marlene Marshall at 250-838-6955.
