Pickleball expands to four outdoor courts

Sport continues to grow in the Oliver and the entire South Okanagan

Pickleball is one of the hottest new sports in Oliver and with the club’s quick growth they opened two new courts on May 7.

“Pickleball is the fastest growing sports in North America,” said Helene Crane, president of the Oliver Pickleball Club. “We officially started our season April 30, and already we have 40 active members, and we expect to double that with the additional courts.”

The club held an official ribbon cutting for the two new courts, giving them a total of four outdoor playing surfaces, at the Oliver Tennis Court.

“None of this would have been possible without the encouragement and support that we have received from Oliver Parks and Recreation and our sponsor Hidden Chapel Winery, both of whom have been instrumental in making this a reality,” said Crane.

Faye Gowing, secretary for the Pickleball Club said members experience ranges from novice to intermediete to advanced and they just completed free beginner classes.
