Langley down 1-0 in best-of-seven playoff series with Abbotsford

In a low-scoring game one, it was the Abbotsford Pilots prevailing over the Langley Trappers.

The Pilots scored a 2-1 victory over the Trappers in game one of the best-of-seven junior B playoff series on Wednesday night at the George Preston Recreation Centre.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Pilots’s Alexander Methorst got the visitors on the board 7:01 into the middle frame. Baylee Wright — the PJHL’s regular season leading scorer — doubled the lead early in the third and that stood out to be the winner after Matthew Smoliga got the Trappers on the board with a power-play goal in the final minute of the game.

Abbotsford outshot Langley 33-24 with the Trappers’ Keaton Dyck making 31 saves in a losing effort.

Games two and three are at Abbotsford’s MSA Arena on Feb. 16 and 17 with game four set for the Preston Centre on Feb. 19.
