The Abbotsford Pilots continued to cruise along, winning a pair of weekend games.
The local junior B hockey club crushed the Ridge Meadows Flames 9-2 at MSA Arena on Friday. Joel Atkinson and Dylan Cusmano potted two goals apiece, while Brandon Daase and Michael Tebbutt both notched a goal and three assists.
The Port Moody Black Panthers posed a stiffer test on the road on Saturday, taking Abbotsford to overtime, but the Pilots prevailed on Dakota Schipper’s goal 1:44 into the extra session. It was Schipper’s second goal of the game, and Ryan Parmar and Colton Cowden also scored for Abby in regulation.
The Pilots (26-8-2) have now won five in a row, and 10 of their last 12 dating back to the start of December. They boast a nine-point edge on the second-place Aldergrove Kodiaks in the Harold Brittain Conference standings, and they’re three points back of the Richmond Sockeyes for first place overall in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.
The Pilots are back in action on Wednesday, when they face the Flames on the road (7:30 p.m., Planet Ice). On Friday, the local club hosts Port Moody (7:30 p.m., MSA Arena).
